A United States-based advocacy firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, has alleged that President Bola Tinubu is determined to remain in power beyond the 2027 presidential election.
The firm made the allegation in a statement posted on its verified X account on Thursday, October 1, 2026, while reacting to Tinubu’s Independence Day address.

Von Batten-Montague-York claimed that Tinubu’s continued stay in office could provide protection associated with head-of-state immunity, which it said may shield a sitting president from certain foreign legal proceedings.
The firm further alleged that Tinubu’s current position was a factor in what it described as the possibility of renewed scrutiny of allegations concerning his activities in the United States during the 1980s and 1990s.
It also alleged that the President had reasons beyond political considerations for seeking another term in office.
The advocacy group’s comments came amid heightened political activities ahead of the 2027 general election and renewed debate among opposition groups over the political future of the Tinubu administration.
The allegations made by the US firm concern claims about Tinubu and do not, by themselves, establish that any criminal conduct occurred.
The statement adds to a series of political criticisms directed at the President as political parties and opposition groups intensify preparations for the 2027 elections.
