A member of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Yusuf Abdullahi Itas, has withdrawn from the race for re-election in the 2027 general elections.
Itas represents Itas/Gadau State Constituency and was seeking another term in the assembly on the platform of the Allied Peoples’ Movement, APM.

The lawmaker communicated his decision in a letter dated October 5, 2026, addressed to the APM state chairman.
In the letter, titled “Withdrawal of Candidature for the Itas/Gadau State Constituency Seat in the Bauchi State House of Assembly,” he formally notified the party that he would no longer contest the seat in the forthcoming election.
Itas described his decision as “entirely voluntary and personal” but did not disclose any specific reason for withdrawing from the race.
He expressed appreciation to the party’s leadership and members for giving him the opportunity to represent the APM and for the confidence reposed in him.
The lawmaker also thanked the people of Itas/Gadau Constituency for their encouragement and support during his time in office.
Itas currently serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Petitions and Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
His withdrawal comes less than three weeks after the Bauchi Assembly Chief Whip, Musa Wakili Nakwada, who represents Bogoro Constituency, also announced that he would not contest the 2027 election.
The two lawmakers’ decisions mark separate withdrawals from the APM’s planned participation in the Bauchi State House of Assembly elections, although neither announcement specified a move to another political party.
