Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has declared that Northern Nigeria will give President Bola Tinubu full support in the 2027 presidential election, insisting that there should be no change of government at the Presidential Villa.
Yusuf made the declaration on Saturday in Abuja during the unveiling of the national headquarters of Arewa for Asiwaju (A4A), a political movement established to mobilise support for Tinubu’s re-election.

The governor said the North would support the president’s second-term ambition, adding that Kano State would play a leading role in mobilising voters across the region.
“I can guarantee the President that the North will support his second-term ambition,” Yusuf said.
He described Kano as a key electoral state in Northern Nigeria and expressed confidence that it would record a significant turnout in support of Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
Yusuf based his position partly on what he described as an understanding reached between Northern and Southern political leaders in 1999 on the rotation of presidential power.
According to him, the arrangement envisaged two consecutive terms for each region, citing the eight years served by former President Muhammadu Buhari as an example of the North completing its turn.
He argued that the South should similarly be allowed to complete two terms under Tinubu, although he acknowledged that the alleged agreement was not constitutionally binding.
The governor said political leaders should respect the understanding in the interest of continuity and national unity.
He also urged opposition parties to focus their campaigns on policy issues rather than personal attacks against the president and other political leaders.
Speaking at the event, Vice-President Kashim Shettima said political support for the administration must go hand in hand with accountability and tangible improvements in the lives of Nigerians.
Shettima acknowledged the economic difficulties facing citizens and stressed the need for the government to address concerns relating to security, education, poverty reduction and economic opportunities.
The A4A movement is designed to coordinate political mobilisation for Tinubu and Shettima across the 19 Northern states and the Federal Capital Territory ahead of the 2027 elections.
Former Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar, serves as the movement’s national coordinator.
Yusuf’s declaration comes amid growing political activity and consultations among parties and political groups as preparations for the 2027 general elections intensify. His pledge represents his political position and does not establish how voters across Northern Nigeria will ultimately cast their ballots.
