The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Borno State has dismissed its House of Assembly candidate, Mohammed Bunu, over alleged involvement in campaign activities supporting the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
The decision was communicated in a letter dated October 25, 2026, and signed by the NDC state Deputy Chairman, Umar Fema.

According to the letter, the disciplinary action followed allegations that campaign materials bearing the ADC logo, the slogan “SABON TAFIYA, SABON SALO,” and the names and photographs of Atiku and Bunu had circulated.
The party said Bunu’s appearance on the materials raised concerns about his political allegiance, loyalty and commitment to the principles and interests of the NDC.
Fema explained that the matter originated at the Hausari Ward level before being referred to the party leadership in the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC) for investigation and further consideration.
The letter stated that the Hausari Ward Executive invited Bunu to appear before it on October 23 to respond to the allegations of participating in campaign activities associated with another political party. However, he reportedly failed to attend the meeting.
Following his absence, the ward secretary, Rabiu Umar, recommended disciplinary action and referred the matter to the MMC Working Committee for further consideration.
The party said Bunu was subsequently invited to appear before an investigation committee on October 24 but again failed to attend the proceedings.
After reviewing the committee’s report, the MMC party chairman, Adamu Ibrahim, endorsed the recommendation for disciplinary action and forwarded it to the state leadership for a final decision.
Fema said the state chapter considered the allegations and reports submitted through its disciplinary structure before deciding to dismiss Bunu from the party, subject to applicable constitutional requirements and the authority of the relevant party organs.
The NDC also directed Bunu to comply with the party’s established procedures and refrain from presenting himself as authorised to represent the party in any capacity affected by a valid and effective decision.
However, the letter clarified that the action concerning Bunu’s status as a candidate was separate from the question of terminating or expelling his membership of the party.
The development comes as political parties continue to strengthen internal discipline and prepare for the 2027 general elections.
