The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has criticised President Bola Tinubu over the worsening economic hardship in the country, urging him to prioritise the fight against hunger rather than concentrate on opposition parties.
Atiku made the remarks on Tuesday during a press conference at his residence in Abuja, where he expressed concern over the rising cost of living, growing insecurity and alleged attacks on opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general election.

The former Vice-President said many Nigerians were struggling to survive, while several businesses had collapsed under the weight of the economic policies introduced by the Tinubu administration.
He accused the Federal Government of abandoning citizens to hunger, poverty and insecurity while allegedly directing much of its attention towards weakening opposition parties and intimidating their leaders.
“Fight hunger, not opposition parties,” Atiku told the President.
According to him, the rising cost of food has made it increasingly difficult for ordinary Nigerians to meet their basic needs, while high fuel prices have placed additional pressure on businesses and households.
He also faulted the administration over the security situation, saying insecurity continued to threaten lives and economic activities across the country.
Atiku further alleged that opposition politicians were facing intimidation and attacks as political activities gathered momentum ahead of the 2027 elections.
He maintained that the government should focus on addressing the country’s economic and security challenges instead of engaging in political battles with its opponents.
The ADC candidate’s criticism comes amid increasing political tension between the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and opposition parties as preparations for the 2027 general election intensify.
