Doha, 13 April 2015 – The Emir of Qatar, His Highness Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, received in audience today in Doha, Qatar, a delegation from the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) led by its president, Issa Hayatou.
The delegation included Almamy Kabele Camara – CAF 2nd Vice President; Tarek Bouchamaoui, member, CAF Executive Committee; Hany Abo Rida, African member of the FIFA Executive Committee and Hicham El Amrani – CAF Secretary General.
“We wanted to come personally and express our gratitude and that of the entire African football family to the Emir, His Highness Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani for the solicitude fact showed by Qatar late last year by proposing to welcome us when we were looking for an alternative host for the Orange Africa Cup of Nations 2015. This was seen as a great indelible mark of friendship and brotherhood with CAF and African football,” said Hayatou at the end of the hearing, which was held in a warm atmosphere.
On his part, the Emir, His Highness Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani expressed satisfaction with the happy ending of this episode, finally with an African host country, Equatorial Guinea, found to host the AFCON 2015 successfully on the agreed dates.
His Highness Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani reiterated to his guests the commitment of Qatar to work for the strengthening of ties with CAF and African football, which his country hopes to provide multifaceted support.
CAF and the Qatar Football Association (QFA) would soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) consolidating cooperation between the two institutions.
