Chairman of the African Action Congress, AAC, in Lagos State, Ayoyinka Oni, has accused the All Progressives Congress, APC, of manipulating the July 12 local government elections in the state.
The polls saw the APC win all 20 local government chairmanship positions, all 37 Local Council Development Area, LCDA, chairmanship seats, and 375 councillorship positions, while the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, secured only one councillor seat.
Speaking on News Central Television’s Inside Lagos Politics – The Fallout of the Local Government Elections, Oni criticised the APC, describing it as a “ruining party” rather than a ruling party.

“We don’t have a ruling party in Lagos; we have a ruining party,” he said, alleging that police officers deployed for election duty were “sleeping and collecting bribes.”
He also called for the removal of the Chairman of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, LASIEC.
In response, political analyst and civil society advocate, Nelson Ekujumi, urged opposition parties to study the electoral process and constitutional provisions, stressing the need for improved civic education to tackle misinformation and encourage public participation.
Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, defended security operatives, describing the election as “90 percent successful.”
While acknowledging isolated cases of malpractice, he maintained that such incidents were promptly addressed.
