Abbo got the ticket by defeating his immediate predecessor, Senator Binta Masi and a top businessman, Hamisu Idris Medugu, among others.

Results of the Adamawa North APC primary, obtained by th media on Sunday morning, showed that Abbo polled 137 votes, followed by Hamisu Medugu who got 100 votes, and Binta Masi Garba who received 46 votes.
A fourth contender for the ticket, Alhaji Abdulrahaman Kwacham did not get any vote.
The victory will bring Abbo face to face with Reverend Amos Yohanna, the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the general election due next year.
Abbo first became Senator in 2019 by defeating Binta Masi who was the incumbent Adamawa North Senator that time.
Binta Masi had been the Senator under the APC, while Abbo was then in the PDP.
Abbo remained a PDP Senator until he defected to the APC last year.
