The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reacted to the recent defections of some of its members to the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that it is not perturbed by the exits.
In a press release signed by Abraham Amah, the Vice Chairman/acting Publicity Secretary of the Abia PDP, the party noted that the defectors had come to the realization that they were no longer indispensable to the PDP.
The party disclosed that many of those leaving were responsible for the “brief downturn” the PDP experienced in Abia during the 2023 polls.

However, it sees their departure as a blessing in disguise, as it has received numerous applications from individuals eager to join the party.
According to the press release, the Abia PDP conducted a post-mortem on its performance after the 2023 general elections and concluded that it needed to reinvent itself for the future.
The party believes that shedding weight, not through expulsion but through voluntary exits of those responsible for its decline, is essential for its rejuvenation.
The statement came after prominent figures like former Chief of Staff to ex-governor Okezie Ikpeazu, Anthony Agbazuere, and former Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Eze Chikanmayo, among others, defected to the APC on Monday, causing a significant stir in the Abia political landscape.
