The Abia State Police Command has apprehended four individuals disguised in Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) uniforms who were operating with a toy gun.
According to a statement released by the Command, the arrests were made following credible intelligence received by the Central Police Station, Umuahia.
The statement, signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Maureen Chinaka, revealed that the four-man gang in EFCC uniforms had reportedly visited Enyioma Christ Lodge, Umudike, where they robbed students at gunpoint and forced them to transfer a total of N120,000 to their bank account.

Upon receiving the information, officers from the Central Police Station (CPS) Umuahia launched an investigation and visited the crime scene. Subsequently, three men from the Man O’ War base, identified as Onyedikachi Ihechukwumere (25 years), Onwuka Christopher (26 years), and Tochukwu Obinna (30 years), were arrested.
Items recovered from the suspects included three out of the six stolen phones and a tricycle with registration number HAF 011VG FLEET NO 5868, which was allegedly used during the criminal act.
Further details of the arrest revealed that on January 24, 2024, James Prince Victor (39 years) of Ohuhu Umuahia North, who claimed to be an EFCC personnel and led the Man O War suspects to the student lodge, was apprehended along with Chidozie Onwuzuruike (40 years) of the same address.
The items recovered from them included four red-colored jackets with EFCC inscription, two EFCC ID cards, one of the stolen phones, a toy gun, and four EFCC search warrants.
The Abia State Police Command advised residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police immediately, regardless of whether the individual is in uniform or not.
The Command emphasized that such collaborative efforts from the public would enhance the effectiveness of law enforcement in the state.
