The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa State, Ailyu Shehu, has dismissed reports of a factional crisis within the party, insisting that the PDP remains united and strong as it prepares for the upcoming by-election in the Ganye State Constituency.
Speaking during a press conference in Yola, Shehu described rumours of a split as unfounded, clarifying that the situation only involves a handful of aggrieved members who, according to him, cannot weaken the party’s structure.
“There is no breakaway faction in Adamawa PDP. What we have is just an association of aggrieved members. Their efforts will not divide the party,” he said.

Shehu explained that internal disagreements were normal in any political party but criticised those he accused of sowing confusion.
“Ironically, these aggrieved individuals are the same people who have benefitted the most from the PDP since 1998,” he added. “But because of age and their unwillingness to give space to the younger generation, they now feel left out.”
Despite the internal grievances, the PDP chairman expressed confidence in the party’s strength ahead of the by-election, scheduled by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to hold on August 16, 2025.
He confirmed that the party had already received its primary election materials and begun selling nomination forms to interested aspirants.
“We are ready, and our party has the popularity ahead of the upcoming election,” Shehu declared. “Adamawa is a PDP state from inception to now. The people have continued to trust our leadership because of our development record.”
Shehu also urged all party members to remain united and work together to secure victory at the polls, emphasising that the PDP’s legacy of performance would continue to earn it the people’s trust.
