
CAF inspectors arrived in Algeria Tuesday and immediately commenced inspection of facilities the country has lined-up as it bids to host the Africa Cup of Nations. Algeria is among six countries who are contending to host the African Nations Cup in 2019 and 2021.
The CAF delegation of Messrs. Amadou Diakite and Djibrin Adoum, both CAF Executive Committee members, FIFA Expert Walter Gagg, CAF Expert Paul Bassey and Amr Fahmy, the CAF Manager of Africa Cup tournaments was met on arrival at Algiers airport by Mohammed Raouaraou, the President of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) and other members of the Executive Committee of the FAF.
The team immediately commenced work; checking proposed training grounds at the Technical Centre of the FAF and the Beni Massous Stadium. The delegation also inspected the renovated El Aurassi five star hotel Complex and the historic El Adjair Hotel in the centre of Algiers.
By the end of its five-day tour of duty of Algeria, the team would have in addition to Algiers, also go to Oran, Blida and Annaba where they will also inspect stadiums, training pitches, hotels, hospitals, transport and communication networks.
On completion of its work in Algeria, the team will fly to Cameroon, another bidding nation.
The CAF Inspections Committee started its work in West Africa, visiting Guinea and Cote d’ivoire. The delegation will conclude its inspections of bidding nations with July visits to Zambia and Congo DR in that order.
The Committee will upon completion of all inspections of bidding nations present its report to CAF. The CAF Executive Committee meeting in September 2014 will decide on the host nations for 2019 and 2021.
