Human rights activist, Aisha Yesufu, has said the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, needs a mayor rather than a minister.
Yesufu made the remark in a statement posted on her verified X handle on Friday.
Her comment came a few hours before the FCT Area Council election, where residents of the nation’s capital city are expected to go to the polls to elect leaders who will spearhead the activities of the six area councils.
The co-convener of the #BringBackOurGirls campaign said, “Abuja needs a mayor. This nonsense appointment of a minister as the executive head of FCT needs to stop.”
Reacting to her statement, an X user, @jayeobajaye, said, “If we are even copying the American system of government then we should copy it as a whole and not the partial way that is leading us nowhere.”
