Former Nigeria international striker, Ben Akwuegbu has heaped plaudits on the National U-20 Flying Eagles, following their triumph in the concluded Africa Youth Championship, AYC, in Dakar, Senegal on Sunday.

The Nigeria squad edged hosts, Senegal 1-0 to lift the trophy, their seventh win of the continental diadem since its inception.

Akwuegbu who is now the manager of FC Gratkorn of Austria, said the combination of Manu Garba which produced such a smooth playing, disciplined, cohesive and attacking minded team is no doubt the best the country has had in recent time.

“I’m pleased with the performance of the team, they made anybody’s day and I hope every Nigerian is proud of the team”, starts Akwuegbu from his base on Monday.

“It shows the quality of talents that abound in the country, and I must say congratulations to the duo of coaches Manu Garba and Nduka Ugbade for their philosophy, discipline and commitment that they impacted into the boys.

“I’ve no doubt in my mind that these boys can win the FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zeland later this year.

“Besides, I believe after the World Cup, they will step up to take the center stage of the senior national team, Super Eagles”, Akwuegbu stressed.
