Mr. Tod, West Hudson Street Ave’s pie guy, usually spends this time of year rolling in dough as he rolls dough for the annual pie bonanza that is Thanksgiving season.
So much so that pie man Tod Wilson puts aside his shop’s normal Sunday brunch to focus on the scores of sweet potato pies and the myriad of other pies he has to crank out between now and Nov. 22. But when 15-time Grammy winner Alicia Keys and rapper husband Swizz Beatz strolled into Mr. Tod’s Pies Factory around noon Sunday, he took a much-appreciated break.
“She sat down and we made her a nice meal,” Wilson said adding that the couple washed it down with some cinnamon chai. “They are really nice people.”
Wilson noted that he was not exactly star-struck. The late Charley Murphy would frequent his pie shop, as has rapper Fabolous. It’s also not uncommon to see former Knicks star Patrick Ewing or comic Tracy Morgan in the neighborhood, Wilson said.
“Englewood’s a real nice town,” Wilson said adding that it is well above average for star watchging. “You can see anyone.”
