The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has raised allegations that Chief Tony Okocha, the recently inaugurated chairman of the caretaker committee for the party in the state, is not a bona fide member of the APC.
The claim was made by Dalington Nwauju, the Publicity Secretary of the APC in the state, during an appearance on Channels TV’s program on Saturday.
Nwauju addressed the ongoing leadership crisis within the party in Rivers State.

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC had recently inaugurated members of the caretaker committee for the Rivers chapter, with Tony Okocha appointed as chairman and Eric Nwibani as the secretary.
During the televised interview, Nwauju asserted that Okocha had previously worked against the interests of the APC in Rivers State during the last election.
He questioned the legitimacy of Okocha’s leadership role, stating, “The number one person on the caretaker committee list is not a member of the APC.
Tony Okocha left the party and joined forces with Magnus Abe against the party.”
Nwauju further claimed that Okocha had not campaigned for any APC candidates in Rivers State, raising doubts about his suitability to lead the party.
He questioned the rationale behind appointing someone who had previously acted against the APC to now assume a leadership position.
The controversy surrounding Okocha’s alleged affiliation with Magnus Abe and his past actions against the party adds complexity to the ongoing leadership crisis within the APC in Rivers State.
The statement from Nwauju also questioned the legality of the actions taken by the National Chairman of the party, Abdullahi Ganduje, in inaugurating the committee and urged a reevaluation of the appointment in light of the allegations.
