Former Minister of Transportation and ex-Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, has accused the President Bola Tinubu-led administration of failing Nigerians, saying the government has worsened the country’s economic hardship.
Amaechi, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), declared his readiness to join a coalition of opposition forces to challenge Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
Speaking in an interview with the BBC, the former minister insisted that his loyalty to the APC would not stop him from speaking the truth to those in power.

“If the government is failing the country, you don’t just go along because you’re in the same party. You know that’s not right,” Amaechi stated.
He lamented the level of poverty and hunger ravaging the country, stressing that he too is feeling the impact of the economic hardship.
“People are dying. People are starving. I myself am feeling the effects of hunger,” he said.
Amaechi is believed to be aligning with an opposition coalition seeking to unseat President Tinubu in the next general election.
Notable political figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai—both seen as key leaders of the coalition—attended Amaechi’s 60th birthday celebration in Abuja recently.
At the event, Amaechi, Atiku, and El-Rufai jointly accused the Tinubu administration of “weaponizing poverty” against Nigerians.
