A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has described the massive crowd that received former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, in Port Harcourt on Wednesday as a clear indication of a looming political shift ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Eze said the enthusiastic reception for Amaechi reflects a growing appetite for change, particularly in Rivers State, and underscores the former governor’s continued relevance in Nigeria’s political landscape.
Eze noted that Amaechi’s recent political engagements, including his involvement with a new opposition coalition, have unsettled rival political camps and signalled a realignment of forces ahead of the next election cycle.

“The mammoth crowd that took to the streets to accord Amaechi a rousing welcome back to the State demonstrates the acceptance of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the party to form the next government in Rivers State come 2027,” Eze stated.
Amaechi, a founding member of the APC and former Governor of Rivers State, recently pledged support for the emerging coalition seeking to unseat President Bola Tinubu’s APC administration. Reports indicate that the coalition has adopted the ADC as its political platform.
Eze likened Amaechi’s current role in the opposition coalition to the pivotal part he played in 2015 in forming the APC and propelling it to power. According to him, the former transportation minister’s switch to the ADC is not only historic but also deliberate and strategic.
“For Amaechi to dump the APC, a party he helped midwife into national prominence, it is evident he is on a mission to recover Rivers State from the hands of undemocratic forces that have turned the state into a laughing stock,” Eze said.
He added that Amaechi’s reception in Port Harcourt serves as a “testament” to his enduring popularity and the people’s trust in his leadership.
“Without mincing words, the crowd showed that Amaechi is loved and admired by Rivers people. It’s a testament to the fact that his love for the development and emancipation of the state and her people is unparalleled and infectious,” Eze said.
He further claimed that Amaechi’s alignment with the ADC has already begun to attract defectors from other political parties.
“Most of the people that thought Amaechi is finished politically are now pleading to join the 2027 ADC train,” he added.
The former minister’s growing influence within the emerging coalition, according to Eze, positions him as a critical figure in reshaping the country’s political direction ahead of 2027.
