The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Anambra State has fixed August 9, 2025, for the official flag-off of its campaign ahead of the November 8 gubernatorial election in the state.
The announcement was made on Friday by the party’s governorship candidate, Mr John Nwosu, during the inauguration of a 22-member state campaign committee at the ADC secretariat in Awka. The committee is chaired by Engr Ike Iwenofu.
Nwosu, an ICT expert, described the ADC as a coalition party made up of individuals of proven integrity, drawn from several political backgrounds, including PDP, LP, SDP, COPDEM, and APC.

He stressed that the committee reflects the party’s broad-based appeal and commitment to inclusive governance.
He urged members to familiarise themselves with the party’s seven-point manifesto focused on security, health, education, economy, environment, market infrastructure, and social welfare. According to him, these pillars emerged from a recent local government tour where residents complained of high rental costs, insecurity, and excessive taxation under the current administration.
“Now is not the time for gossip or internal mistrust,” Nwosu said. “We must trust each other, resolve differences privately, and take our message to the grassroots.”
To ensure statewide outreach, the committee has been divided into three zonal teams, each led by a zonal director covering the state’s three senatorial districts. Nwosu emphasised that after the inauguration, fieldwork would begin immediately.
He also revealed that the ADC aims to make a strong impression in the upcoming state assembly and senatorial by-elections in Onitsha North I and Anambra South.
Committee chairman Engr Ike Iwenofu, in his acceptance speech, described his appointment as an honour and pledged not to disappoint. He acknowledged Nwosu’s leadership and promised to integrate technology into voter engagement strategies.
ADC Deputy Governorship candidate Chief Ndubisi Nwobu called for unity and partnership among party members, assuring that their efforts and sacrifices would be recognised and rewarded.
Also speaking at the event, ADC State Chairman, Patrick Obianyo, described the inauguration as a turning point in the party’s journey. He reminded members that the ADC was founded by an Anambra indigene, Chief Okey Nwosu, and charged the committee to deliver victory starting with the imminent by-elections.
Anambra South senatorial candidate, Barrister Donald Amamgbo, criticised the state’s current leadership for disconnecting from the people. He said, “If you want to see governance at work, go to Abia,” suggesting Anambra deserved better.
Hon. Ben Chuks Nwosu, a former Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, was named Chief of Staff to the campaign, while Chief Bonny Okoye was appointed Campaign Manager. Veteran journalist Sunny Igboanugo will lead the media and publicity arm.
The ADC said its campaign flag-off on August 9 will mark the beginning of a new phase in its drive to take over Anambra Government House through people-driven policies and grassroots mobilisation.
