The senatorial candidate of the Young Progressives Party, YPP, in Anambra State, Oforbuike Okoli-Egbo, has condemned alleged vote-buying during Saturday’s by-election in the state.
Okoli-Egbo made the claim on Monday during an interview on Channels Television’s Lunchtime Politics.
He alleged that the poll was heavily compromised by financial inducements, with voters reportedly receiving between ₦15,000 and ₦20,000 to cast their ballots.

“What happened in Anambra is a heavily financially induced election. It has never been known that a voter is paid over ₦15,000 to ₦20,000 to cast their vote. That was what transpired,” Okoli-Egbo said.
He further accused the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, and the All Progressives Congress, APC, of being responsible for the alleged inducements, adding that the practice undermined the credibility of the exercise and was a sharp departure from previous elections in the state.
Despite his concerns, the YPP candidate maintained that his party remained a formidable force in Anambra politics, pointing to its past electoral victories as evidence of its grassroots support.
