Prominent journalist and political figure Dele Momodu has stated that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has been taken by surprise by the recent coalition formed by opposition forces ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Momodu, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and publisher of Ovation Magazine, made this assertion during an interview on Arise News.
He recently resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and formally aligned with the ADC-led coalition that includes major political actors, such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi.

According to Momodu, the APC appears desperate to begin its 2027 campaign but has been blindsided by the strategic political alliance being formed by opposition stakeholders.
“I don’t want to mention names, but we all know what’s happening in Nigeria today — except those who want to hide behind one finger, as Chief Abiola used to say. You cannot hide behind one finger,” Momodu said.
He criticised the PDP’s inability to manage internal crises, particularly following the fallout of its 2023 presidential primaries. “Since 2022, the PDP has been fighting to stay alive because those who lost out in the presidential race felt very bad,” he said.
Recalling his own political experience, he noted, “I was one of those who contested. I had zero votes, but I’m proud that in 2011, I was a candidate and had 26,000 votes nationwide. That will always be part of my legacy.”
Momodu also took aim at the APC for allegedly prioritising power over national development. “The ruling party is in a hurry to contest the 2027 elections, if possible, today. But Nigeria is in disarray. Nigerians are suffering. No one is talking about policy, development, or progress. It’s all about power and who gets to be President again.”
He stated that the opposition bloc, particularly under the ADC banner, is no longer willing to play catch-up. “We realised that instead of playing catch-up, we must also go on the offensive. We have decided to outplay the APC in their own game. Now they are throwing tantrums.”
He further alleged that the APC is attempting to destabilise the emerging coalition. “They can see that the ADC and its allies have caught them unawares.
Now, they are finding every means to scatter the party again. But by the grace of Almighty God, that’s going to be impossible.”
The growing opposition alliance under the ADC umbrella is being seen as a significant threat to the dominance of the APC, especially as key political figures reposition themselves ahead of the 2027 presidential elections.
