A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former federal lawmaker, Hon. Ifeanyi Ibezi, has publicly declared his support for Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.
Ibezi, who formerly represented the Idemili North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, announced his decision during a meeting at his country home in Abatete, Idemili North Local Government Area.
He attributed his move to the APC’s alleged unwillingness to win the upcoming governorship poll.

The development follows the emergence of Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu as the APC’s flagbearer in Saturday’s primary election, defeating other aspirants considered by some party stakeholders to be more qualified.
Ibezi said his decision to back Soludo was informed by his assessment of the governor’s performance and the state of affairs within the APC in Anambra.
“Soludo must go for a second term. I went on inspection of his projects, and I know he is doing well,” Ibezi said. “If your party is not doing well, what will you do? Is it not to switch support to a better party?”
He further declared: “Our support will move immediately to Soludo.”
The APC primary was marred by controversy as three aspirants — Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, Paul Chukwuma, and another unnamed contender — withdrew from the race, citing irregularities and safety concerns.
Prof. Okonkwo, in his withdrawal statement, said he could not risk the lives of his supporters, while Chukwuma blamed the presence of “unprogressive elements” in the party for his exit.
The endorsement by Ibezi, a notable figure in Anambra politics, is seen as a significant boost for Governor Soludo, who is expected to seek re-election under the APGA platform.
Neither the APC leadership in the state nor Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu has officially responded to Ibezi’s defection as of press time.
