A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Fouad Oki, has raised concerns over the escalating crisis within the Lagos State House of Assembly, warning that it is becoming dangerously volatile.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Oki stated that if the situation persists, the crisis in Rivers State Assembly would pale in comparison.
He described the ongoing speakership tussle as a potential “mother of all state legislative crises” in Nigeria.

His remarks came just hours after armed security operatives from the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS) stormed the Assembly complex, preventing the newly elected Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, from accessing the chamber.
She was eventually allowed in after several hours and later became emotional as lawmakers passed a vote of confidence in her.
“If you see what happened today, you will begin to look at Rivers State, the mayhem that is also consuming Osun State, and what is happening in Kano. Put all these together, and Lagos will be worse,” Oki said.
The crisis erupted following the removal of Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker, a move that has plunged the House into weeks of leadership turmoil. Obasa has rejected his ouster, calling it illegal, and has taken legal action to challenge the process.
Oki condemned the events at the Assembly, describing them as a “show of shame” and a setback for democracy.
“Today is a sad day for me and indeed for all lovers of democracy in Nigeria,” he said.
The APC chieftain vowed to resist any attempt to undermine democratic principles, stating that he and his allies, who fought for democracy, would stand firm.
“If there are those who do not have a sense of history, those who may either be benefactors of Hon. Mudashiru Obasa or supporting him to cause a breach of the peace in Lagos, we will again put our lives on the line to defend democracy,” he declared.
