A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nanfwang Gunat, has cautioned legislators across the country against passing a vote of confidence on the party’s embattled National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje.
Gunat, who was a member of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council (North Central Support Groups Coordination), stressed that any such endorsement would be a betrayal of the North Central region, which has been advocating to reclaim the party’s chairmanship position following the resignation of Abdullahi Adamu.
Speaking to journalists on Wednesday in Jos, the Plateau State capital, Gunat alleged that Ganduje was lobbying both former and serving lawmakers from state houses of assembly, the House of Representatives, and the Senate to secure their support for retaining the chairmanship seat in the North-West, his geopolitical zone.

North Central’s Claim to Chairmanship
Gunat emphasized that the APC constitutionally allocated the chairmanship position to the North Central, a region he said has made significant contributions to the party’s progress.
“That position has been constitutionally agreed by the party to be for the North Central, which has contributed greatly towards the progress of APC.
However, Ganduje is trying everything possible to twist that fact,” he said.
He further declared that the North Central region would not concede the chairmanship to any other region, maintaining that it was crucial for the party to honor its internal agreements.
Criticism of Ganduje’s Record
Gunat dismissed claims attributing APC’s successes in the Edo and Ondo governorship elections to Ganduje, arguing that the party’s victories were driven by the trust and belief of the electorate in the APC, rather than Ganduje’s influence.
He also criticized Ganduje’s inability to secure Kano State for the APC in the 2023 general elections, questioning his credibility as the party’s national chairman.
Call for NEC Intervention
The APC chieftain urged President Bola Tinubu and the party’s leadership to convene a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting to address the chairmanship issue and prevent a potential crisis within the party.
“I wish to call on President Bola Tinubu and leaders of our party to immediately convene a National Executive Council meeting to address this issue of the chairmanship position so that it doesn’t tear the party apart,” he said.
Gunat warned that failure to address the matter could deepen feelings of marginalization in the North Central region and jeopardize the party’s unity and prospects ahead of the 2027 general elections.
