The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Gombe State has condemned the alleged assault involving an aide to the state governor attached to the Office of the Chief of Staff and a serving councillor, following the circulation of a viral video of the incident.
Civil society organisations, including Amnesty International and the Gombe State Network of Civil Society Organisations, had earlier condemned the incident, demanding justice and calling for the immediate dismissal of the aide involved.

The viral footage shows a governor’s aide, identified as Adamu Abdullahi Danko, allegedly assaulting a councillor, Abdulrahman Abubakar, who appeared defenceless during the altercation.
Reacting to the development, the APC, in a statement issued by its State Publicity Secretary, Moses Kyari, expressed deep concern over the incident, stressing that the party unequivocally condemns all forms of violence and unlawful conduct.
“The incident is deeply troubling and inconsistent with the core values, discipline and democratic culture of the APC,” Kyari said.
He disclosed that the party has launched a comprehensive internal investigation into the matter and summoned all individuals involved to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the altercation.
According to him, the move is aimed at upholding accountability, safeguarding the integrity of the party and preventing a recurrence of such conduct.
Kyari emphasised that the actions captured in the viral video were carried out at the individual’s discretion and not on the instruction, approval or authorisation of the APC or any government office.
“Taking the law into one’s hands is absolutely unacceptable and will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” he added.
The APC spokesman commended the Chief of Staff to the Gombe State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Inuwa Kari, for the swift suspension of the aide, Adamu Danko, pending the outcome of the investigation, describing the move as a clear demonstration of commitment to discipline and justice.
He assured the public that the investigation would be thorough and transparent, guided by the APC constitution, relevant laws and established procedures.
Kyari noted that the probe would examine all material facts surrounding the incident, including the circumstances leading to it and a review of an audio message allegedly linked to the altercation.
