The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has revealed the party’s intention to shift focus to Anambra State following its recent victory in Edo State.
Ganduje made this known at the APC national secretariat in Abuja after Senator Monday Okpebholo was declared the winner of the Edo gubernatorial election.
During his address, Ganduje outlined the party’s strategic plan to challenge the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra next year, with the aim of expanding the APC’s influence in the southeastern region of Nigeria.

He stressed that the party is determined to replicate its successful strategy from Edo in the forthcoming gubernatorial elections in both Ondo and Anambra States.
Ganduje noted that securing a victory in Anambra would be a significant advantage for the Southeast, as it would bring the number of APC-governed states in the region to three, alongside Imo and Ebonyi.
He believes this would help address the ongoing concerns of marginalisation in the Southeast.
“We have started working to develop strategies to win these states. Next year, Anambra State will follow,” Ganduje stated.
“Let me remind you that we have a project which we named the political de-marginalisation of the South East geo-political zone.”
He further emphasised that this project is critical to APC’s broader political agenda. “That project is also a task that must be done. We will face the Southeast zone, which has five states.
We already have two, but two is too small for a big party like ours. We will engage with the people of the region and work towards recovering more states in our favour.”
Ganduje’s remarks signal the APC’s growing ambition to strengthen its foothold in the Southeast, a region where it has historically faced strong competition.
As the party prepares for the upcoming Ondo and Anambra elections, it appears set on expanding its reach and addressing political concerns in the southeastern states.
