The Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, has criticised the All Progressives Congress, APC-led Federal Government, accusing it of diminishing Nigeria’s standing and plunging millions of citizens deeper into poverty.
Obi made the remarks on Wednesday during a press conference on the state of the nation held in Abuja.
“In 1999, we overcame military dictatorship and restored democracy, beginning a renewed journey toward prosperity, freedom, and justice. That journey helped us build Africa’s largest economy and strengthen democratic institutions.

But over the last decade, under the APC’s incompetent, divisive, and corrupt leadership, Nigeria has been greatly diminished,” he said.
The former governor of Anambra State noted that Nigeria was once a promising nation and had been well positioned at independence in 1960 to become not only Africa’s giant but a global powerhouse.
Obi further accused the current administration of worsening the living conditions of Nigerians through its economic policies, stating that over 15 million citizens have been driven below the poverty line in just its first year in office.
He also faulted the government’s tax regime, which he argued continues to demand more from citizens while giving them little or nothing in return.
