The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Osun State has raised concerns over the impartiality of the Hashim Abioye-led Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) in conducting the upcoming local government election.
In a statement signed by Wale Adebayo, the Osogbo APM Chairman, the party argued that Abioye’s affiliation with the ruling party creates a conflict of interest, casting doubt on the commission’s ability to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process.
Adebayo, also the immediate past chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in the state, emphasized that the electoral body’s leadership should be impartial and not affiliated with any political party.

He highlighted Abioye’s previous membership in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before assuming his current role as OSIEC chairman.
The APM called for the replacement of Abioye with someone who is apolitical to guarantee a truly fair and credible election.
They expressed a lack of confidence in Abioye’s capacity to oversee the upcoming local government polls fairly.
Hashim Abioye, who served as a Special Adviser to Governor Ademola Adeleke, announced that the local government election in Osun State is scheduled to take place on February 22, 2023.
The APM’s statement underscores growing tensions and concerns regarding the neutrality and fairness of electoral processes in the state.
