The Court of Appeal sitting in Akure has reinstated the elected local government chairmen and councillors sacked by Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke.
In its judgment on Tuesday, the appellate court ordered the immediate resumption of office by the council officials, all of whom are members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
However, the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) has filed an appeal against the ruling, while the state government has also submitted an application for a stay of execution pending the hearing of the appeal.

Governor Adeleke had sacked the local government officials upon assuming office in November 2022, following a High Court ruling that nullified their election.
The election, conducted by OSSIEC, had been challenged by the Osun State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other political parties.
The plaintiffs had urged the court to declare the election void, arguing that only APC candidates participated in the contest, with voters merely given a “YES” or “NO” option.
