Bayern Munich are looking forward to the re-run of their Champions League quarterfinal of three season ago when they take on Juventus in the round of 16 in this season’s competition.
Serie A champions and last season’s Champions League finalists Juve will also have Arturo Vidal and Kingsley Coman back to Turin following their moves to the Bundesliga giants last year.
Bayern captain Philipp Lahm, who is set to meet fellow 2014 World Cup winner Sami Khedira on the pitch, called the draw a “European classic” and added to Bayern’s official club website: “Juve played in the final last season. That’s a great challenge indeed, but we want to reach the quarter-final. We will give it our all.”
Lahm’s teammate Thomas Muller reflected on the 4-0 aggregate win over the Italians in 2013, saying: “We had good experiences with Juventus in Champions League.
“I am really looking forward to [the new Juventus Stadium]. That’s will be an experience.”
Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said on the official club website: “That’s a very difficult, but also very attractive draw. We’ll need two very good games to reach the quarter-final.”
The club’s honorary president Franz Beckenbauer added on Sky: “They are one of the best teams we have in Europe. That’s a definitely a highlight. Maybe playing the second match at home is a bit of an advantage for Bayern.”
“Alongside Paris they are the most difficult opponent we could draw from pot 2,” marketing CEO Andreas Jung added the the same broadcaster.
