Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has debunked claims circulating on social media that he has resigned from the party.
In a statement issued by his media aide, Paul Ibe, on Thursday, Atiku described the rumour as a “malicious lie” sponsored by desperate political operatives.
He reaffirmed his loyalty and commitment to the PDP, describing himself as a bona fide and steadfast member of the party.

The statement was in response to a post by a Facebook page identified as “Adamawa Happenings,” which falsely claimed that the former vice president had left the PDP.
“We ordinarily would not waste words on faceless social media platforms like the so-called ‘Adamawa Happenings.’ However, in light of inquiries from concerned Nigerians and credible members of the press, we are compelled to set the record straight,” the statement read.
“Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President of Nigeria (1999–2007) and Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has not — we repeat, has not — resigned from the PDP. He remains a steadfast, bona fide, and loyal member of the party.”
The statement further described the claim as a “crude, shameless political hatchet job,” aimed at misleading the public and creating disaffection among his supporters.
“We urge Nigerians, especially supporters of the Waziri Adamawa, to disregard this malicious fabrication. It is a vile, vexatious ploy that deserves nothing but contempt,” Ibe added.
Atiku reiterated his commitment to the ideals of the PDP and to the democratic aspirations of Nigerians.
