The 2004 Pension Reform Act was on Tuesday effectively repealed following President Goodluck Jonathan’s assent to the 2014 Pension Reform Bill. The new pension law prescribes among others, upward review of penalties and sanctions to pension defaulters and employers which fail to remit deducted monies of their employees. The new law was passed between May and June, this year by the National Assembly and subsequently forwarded to President Jonathan for assent. Two people were injured on Tuesday evening when an explosive went off around the Asikolaye area of Kaduna State. Eyewitnesses and the state police command confirmed the incident, which occurred at about 8:15 p.m. when Muslims were breaking their Ramadan fast near the residence of Sheik Dahiru Bauchi. The National Conference Committee on Political Parties and Electoral Matters has recommended that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should ensure that the latest technology is deployed at all times in the conduct of elections as obtained in other climes. An application by the federal government seeking to extradite a man identified as Kingsley Edegbe to Netherlands so he could be tried over allegations of human trafficking, has been struck out by a federal high court siting in Abuja.
