The Director of Defence Information, Maj.-Gen. Chris Olukolade, has confirmed that a bomb exploded at a Nigerian Army barracks in Gombe on Sunday. Olukolade in a telephone interview from Abuja on Sunday said that one soldier died while another was wounded by the explosion. Gunmen on Saturday shot dead a staff of the Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, Mr Baba Seriki-Sanu, who was on his way to Ilorin for a screening exercise. The Kwara State House of Assembly on Saturday announced the death of one of its legislators and Chairman, House Committee on Public Petition, Alhaji Haliru ldris. A statement signed by the Special Assistant to the Speaker on Media Affairs, Alhaji AbdulRahman Sanni, indicated that the legislator died in the early hours of Saturday in llorin, the state capital, aged 48. The World Bank has earmarked N94.5 billion for erosion control projects in Anambra State. The Bank Task Team leader, Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project – NewMap, Dr. Amos Abu disclosed this during a courtesy call on Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State at the Government House, Awka, Friday.
