The Benue State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has postponed its planned mega defection ceremony scheduled to hold in Otukpo and Agatu Local Government Areas of the state.
The ceremony, earlier fixed for January 17 and 18, was shifted to a later date following recent attacks on Otobi-Akpa in Otukpo LGA and parts of the Apa-Agatu Federal Constituency.
The attacks reportedly claimed the lives of several persons, including the PDP House of Assembly candidate in the 2023 election, Hon. Ochi Igbabe, who was killed by suspected armed herdsmen.

The senator representing Benue South Senatorial District and Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro, directed the postponement of the planned decamping ceremony, which was expected to witness members of the APC, ADC, LP and other parties defect to the PDP in Agatu and Otukpo LGAs.
The decision, according to the party, was taken as a mark of respect and mourning for the innocent constituents who lost their lives in the attacks.
In a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Emmanuel Eche’Ofun John, Senator Moro said new dates for the ceremonies in Agatu and Otukpo would be announced in due course.
He expressed regret over any inconvenience the postponement might cause invited guests and party members, while praying for the repose of the souls of the deceased and strength for their families to bear the losses.
