Bode George, the former National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Southwest, has suggested a path to resolve the rift between the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Speaking on Arise Television, George acknowledged that there was a trigger for the face-off between Wike and Atiku but emphasized that Wike is not working against the party.
He described Wike as a bona fide member of the PDP.

George called for an in-depth analysis by party leaders to understand what caused the rift between Wike and Atiku, stating, “Wike and Atiku just didn’t get out in different directions, something happened.”
Regarding Wike’s appointment in the APC-led government, George cited historical examples to justify cross-party engagements, noting that serving in another party’s government does not necessarily mean abandonment of one’s original party.
He mentioned the late Chief Bola Ige, who served as the Attorney-General of the Federation under President Olusegun Obasanjo despite being a member of the Alliance for Democracy.
George emphasized the need for party members to contribute positively and avoid making public assertions that could harm the party’s unity.
He highlighted recent discordant voices from Ondo State and called for members to return to their Local Governments and contribute meaningfully.
He concluded by stating that there are issues to be resolved within the party and emphasized the importance of discipline in managing any organization.
