Ex-Barcelona striker, David Villa has come put to blast those comparing Lamine Yamal to Lionel Messi. He recently had his say while speaking to the press, and fans have been reacting.
According to him, the constant comparisons are annoying because even if the fans have the right to be excited about the youngster, it is unnecessary to compare him to the GOAT.

Villa added that Yamal is an incredible kid and he is surely going to have a good career at Barcelona.
His words, “He’s an incredible kid. How he plays, how he understands football… it’s true that I don’t know him personally, but I’ve been with him a couple of times and he looks very calm and focused.
This is not the explosion of a footballer who is going to last a few months. He’s been there for a while now where, you could say, he could have made a mistake and the opposite is true. He is very good and every time you see him play, he plays better. He also knows what it means to be a champion.
I think that comparing any player to Messi is annoying nowadays. Lamine Yamal is already a world star. He’s been achieving important things for two years and, as a Cule, I’m excited again.
And of course the fans have the right to be excited about him, but I don’t think it’s necessary to compare him with Messi because he’s going to have a very good career.”
WOW.
Futbol Club Barcelona is a professional football club based in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, that competes in La Liga, the top flight of Spanish football.
Founded in 1899 by a group of Swiss, Catalan, German, and English footballers led by Joan Gamper, the club has become a symbol of Catalan culture and Catalanism, hence the motto “Més que un club” (“More than a club”). Unlike many other football clubs, the supporters own and operate Barcelona. It is the third-most valuable sports team in the world, worth $5.51 billion, and the world’s fourth richest football club in terms of revenue, with an annual turnover of €582.1 million.
The official Barcelona anthem is the “Cant del Barça”, written by Jaume Picas and Josep Maria Espinàs. Barcelona traditionally play in dark shades of blue and garnet stripes, hence nicknamed Blaugrana.
In March 2021, Lionel Messi overtook Xavi’s record of 767 games played for the club, and presently has made 778 official appearances in all competitions, while also holding the record for the most appearances in La Liga matches for Barcelona, with 520.
