A group under the aegis of Concerned PDP Youth of Gombe State has called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to withdraw from active political contest and instead take on an advisory role to help shape the future of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The group made the appeal during a press conference held in Gombe on Thursday. Chairman of the group, Jamilu Adamu, commended Atiku’s enduring contributions to the PDP and Nigeria’s democratic journey, describing him as a revered statesman with a lasting political legacy.
Adamu emphasized the need for generational renewal within the PDP and urged the party’s leadership to create more space for young members to emerge and actively participate in rebuilding the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
“We believe that His Excellency Atiku Abubakar’s experience and wisdom can still benefit the PDP if channelled into mentoring and supporting emerging leaders,” he stated.
He clarified that the group’s call was not an attack on the former vice president but a “respected suggestion” aimed at the strategic repositioning of the PDP as a formidable opposition force.
The group further encouraged party stakeholders to embrace fresh perspectives and ensure that younger voices have a central role in decision-making processes.
Reaffirming their commitment to the PDP, Adamu said the youths remain hopeful that their message would be received in the spirit of progress, unity, and constructive dialogue.
“We must build an inclusive and dynamic opposition that is capable of addressing the numerous challenges facing Nigeria,” he concluded.
