Concerns are mounting over the preparedness for the August 15, 2026 governorship election in Osun State amid reports of resignations and defections within political circles.
Attention has increasingly shifted to Governor Ademola Adeleke, with observers citing what they describe as slow campaign coordination and limited visible political activity ahead of the polls.
Despite signals from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) indicating the commencement of campaigns, the governor is yet to appoint a Director General for his re-election bid, raising concerns among stakeholders.

Reacting to the development, the Convener of the Osun Accord Liberation Movement, Yusuf Adegboye, said the situation reflects a lack of clear direction.
“The Accord Party is in a critical moment and there is no clear direction. People are confused. The silence is dangerous,” Adegboye said in a statement issued on Saturday.
He warned that entering an election without a defined campaign structure could indicate deeper internal issues.
“You cannot go into an election of this magnitude without a campaign structure. Failure to appoint a DG at this stage signals deep internal cracks,” he added.
The concerns were further heightened by the resignation of Osunrotimi Ifeoluwa, a board member of the Osun State Council for Arts and Culture.
In his resignation letter dated April 10, 2026, Ifeoluwa cited a lack of impact in his role.
“I believed I was assigned this position to serve the people of Osun State and my constituency, but there is nothing to write home about. No empowerment, not a single opportunity coming out from the ministry to my constituency people,” he stated.
He added that despite support during the last election, his constituents had not benefited from government programmes.
Meanwhile, sources within the ruling camp indicated that some party members and political appointees are defecting or aligning with other platforms, a trend said to be causing unease.
“There is no coordination anymore. People are leaving because they don’t see a future here,” a source familiar with the situation said.
