In the aftermath of President Bola Tinubu’s intervention in the political turmoil engulfing Ondo State, key leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are adamant that Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa should assume the role of acting governor.
The Ondo APC Progressives Stakeholders, a faction within the party, convened in Akure over the weekend, stressing the imperative of adhering to constitutional provisions to resolve the state’s political impasse.
President Tinubu, advocating for the preservation of the status quo, endorsed Aiyedatiwa to persist in his role as deputy governor.

However, the Ondo APC stakeholders, after their Akure meeting, voiced apprehensions regarding Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s prolonged absence, asserting its detrimental impact on governance and the state’s economy.
In a post-meeting statement signed by Chairman Hon. Afe Olowookere and Secretary Hon. Raman Rotimi—both former prominent figures within the APC—the urgency for the State House of Assembly to empower Aiyedatiwa to act as governor was underscored.
The statement emphasized, “APC party members should be allowed to participate in determining appointees to political and party offices. Elders and leaders of the party must receive due recognition rather than facing neglect and ostracism.
The arbitrary assignment of party executives and candidates without due process will be vehemently opposed and contested through all available political and legal avenues.”
