Drake and Nicki Minaj are a part of the 58 nominees for this year’s TIME ‘Person Of The Year’ award.
The publication is holding a vote for readers to share their opinion on who has been influential in popular culture. Drake is up for the vote because of his musical accomplishments and for staying in the headlines.
‘The first artist to go platinum in 2015,’ the site says.
Drake saw his ‘Hotline Bling’ video get spoofed by Donald Trump and get covered by a range of artists.
His beef with Meek Mill over ghostwriting accusations also reignited debates about authenticity in Hip Hop.’ Nicki Minaj gets the nod for using her platform to engage in social issues and her continued influence in music. ‘The artist broke out as one of the entertainment world’s most outspoken voices on issues of race, gender, and sexuality.’ According Times she stepped out and made waves with a headline-grabbing MTV Video Music Award appearance and third world tour.’
Other public figures who were also nominated are Kim Kardashian, Misty Copeland and Bernie Sanders.
Voting closes at 11:59 p.m. on December 4. The fan’s choice for ‘Person Of The Year’ will be announced December 7.
TIME’s editors will reveal their selection for the award December 9 on NBC’s Today Show.
The distinction of ‘Person of the Year’ has previously gone to Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr. and multiple United States presidents.
