The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been praised for its exceptional efforts in recovering more than N9 billion owed to the National Lottery Trust Fund (NLTF).
The commendation came from the NLTF’s Executive Secretary and CEO, Tosin Adeyanju, during a courtesy visit to EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede on Friday, 23rd August 2024, at the Commission’s headquarters.
Adeyanju hailed the recovery as a significant achievement that has enabled the NLTF to fulfil its mandate of supporting the federal government in delivering critical social and physical infrastructure across Nigeria. He attributed the successful recovery to the strong collaboration between the two organisations, which has led to a marked improvement in remittances from lottery operators to the Trust Fund.

“I want to express my sincere gratitude to the EFCC Chairman for the outstanding results of our partnership in recovering outstanding lottery liabilities for the federal government. This remarkable recovery of over N9 billion is a major milestone for us, ensuring that the Trust Fund can effectively contribute to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by funding good causes nationwide,” Adeyanju stated.
He also praised Olukoyede for his broader achievements in the fight against corruption, noting that in just ten months, the EFCC had recovered over N200 billion and more than $58 million in looted funds. Adeyanju expressed confidence in Olukoyede’s leadership, emphasising the integrity and commitment he has brought to the Commission’s anti-corruption efforts.
Olukoyede, in response, congratulated Adeyanju on his recent appointment and commended his early focus on transparency and accountability. He advised the NLTF boss to remain vigilant and conscientious in managing the funds under his care, reminding him of the importance of leaving a positive legacy. “Be guided by your conscience and always do what is right,” Olukoyede urged. “We are here today, but we won’t be here forever. One day, we will all be called to account for our actions in office.”
The EFCC Chairman further assured the delegation of continued collaboration in debt recovery efforts, reiterating that the Commission’s role is to recover funds for the government and its agencies, in line with its statutory obligations. “Every kobo we recover goes directly to you,” Olukoyede stated, dismissing any misconceptions about the allocation of recovered funds. “We are simply fulfilling our mandate to ensure that government agencies receive what is due to them.”
The partnership between the EFCC and NLTF is set to strengthen further, ensuring that funds are effectively utilised to benefit the nation, as both organisations remain committed to upholding transparency and accountability in their operations.
