A governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, Mrs. Funmi Ogun, has expressed strong optimism about the party’s chances in the forthcoming 2026 gubernatorial election but cautioned that unresolved internal disputes could threaten its prospects.
Ogun, a former Commissioner for Works in Ekiti State, said the PDP had gained significant momentum across the state due to the dedication of its members and growing public desire for political change.
In a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Saturday by her Special Adviser on Media, Oladimeji Atenibiaje, Ogun noted that the ongoing grassroots mobilisation and engagement by party stakeholders positioned the PDP as a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

However, she voiced concern over the crisis rocking the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC), especially the leadership dispute involving the office of the National Secretary.
She warned that the rift, if not resolved promptly, could undermine the Ekiti chapter’s efforts to secure victory in the June 20, 2026 poll.
“Our objective is to win the 2026 governorship election and bring transformative governance to Ekiti,” Ogun stated.
“But the unresolved issues within the NWC are troubling. These distractions could weaken our campaign machinery at a critical time.”
She appealed to the NWC, led by Acting National Chairman Alhaji Iliya Umar Damagun, to put the party’s stability and unity first.
“I urge our leaders to find common ground. The PDP is bigger than any individual or faction. A divided house cannot stand, especially with the 2027 general elections approaching.”
The PDP has been embroiled in a leadership tussle over the status of its National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu — a dispute that has reportedly widened divisions within the party, particularly between some serving governors and a faction loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
