The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said elections are won based on performance rather than what he described as “street drama.”
Wike made the remark during a visit to Edo State, where he spoke in Benin City at the handover of 54 construction equipment to the 18 local government areas of the state.
According to the minister, Nigerians should be wary of politicians he described as “emergency democrats” who attempt to identify with ordinary citizens only during election periods.

“Let me say this clearly, winning an election is not by dancing. It is not by buying corn on the road,” Wike said.
“Winning an election is to show the people what you have done and the foundation you have laid.”
He criticised politicians who, according to him, engage in public displays to gain sympathy from voters.
“When they were in office, they hardly came out to talk about buying corn on the road to chew. Something you have never done since you were born, simply because you want to deceive the people to say you are one of the people,” he added.
The FCT minister also praised the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, citing development efforts in the nation’s capital.
“Mr President is busy developing the FCT. That is performance. That is what people should look at,” Wike stated.
He further noted that as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he would not challenge the presidential election outcome, citing what he described as tangible achievements in the FCT.
