The Lamidi Apapa-led faction of the Labour Party issued a call on Sunday to its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Atiku Abubakar, urging them to follow the example of Liberian President George Weah by extending congratulations to President Bola Tinubu.
President Weah gracefully conceded defeat in his re-election bid to opposition leader Joseph Boakai, showcasing a commendable display of sportsmanship.
Abayomi Arabambi, the spokesman for the LP faction, emphasized the importance of emulating such sportsmanship, stating, “Nigerian leaders should emulate this spirit of sportsmanship.”

Arabambi urged Obi and Atiku to join forces with President Tinubu in advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The statement by Arabambi highlighted, “The Labour Party believes that elections, like any competition, would produce the winner and loser.”
Drawing parallels to former Nigerian Presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari, who demonstrated similar sportsmanship, Arabambi encouraged opposition leaders not to be intimidated by incumbency.
Arabambi appealed to Obi and Atiku to acknowledge the constitutional and electoral processes, stating, “The time is ripe for former Vice-president and PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and former Governor of Anambra State and presidential candidate of LP, Mr. Peter Obi, to congratulate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu after the former had explored all the opportunities availed by the Constitution and the Electoral Law.”
The Labour Party underscored the importance of unity, urging Obi and Atiku to set aside differences and collaborate with President Tinubu in implementing reforms and delivering tangible benefits to the Nigerian populace under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
