The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has unveiled an ambitious plan to construct a network of 30 kilometers of roads spanning six Area Councils within the nation’s capital. This development was officially announced by the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, during a visit by Sen. Philip Aduda and Mr. Zakari Dobi in Abuja. Sen. Philip Aduda, who represented the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the 9th Assembly, joined Mr. Zakari Dobi in this courtesy visit to discuss and support the FCT’s developmental initiatives.
The minister has given a firm commitment that these 30 kilometers of roads, divided into five kilometers each for the six area councils, will be completed by May 29, 2024. This ambitious undertaking is driven by the objective of decentralizing development initiatives, shifting the focus from the city center to the rural areas within the various council regions. President Bola Tinubu has issued a directive to ensure that a minimum of five-kilometer roads are constructed in each of the six area councils before May 29. This directive aligns with his Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at ensuring that rural communities are not excluded from the development efforts of the current administration.
Minister Wike commended the collaborative spirit displayed by the visiting dignitaries, despite their differences in political affiliation. He emphasized the importance of acknowledging their contributions to the city’s development and reiterated that the FCT Administration is open to collaboration with all individuals or groups willing to contribute valuable insights and support.

Furthermore, Wike touched on the recent establishment of the Civil Service Commission for FCT, highlighting that this initiative is a key component of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, intended to streamline public services and enhance the delivery of good governance. Additionally, he noted that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has been exempted from the Treasury Single Account (TSA) as part of the effort to promote progress in the capital city and rebuild hope among its residents.
Sen. Philip Aduda expressed the purpose of his visit, which was to celebrate Minister Wike’s new role as the head of the FCT and to commend him for the commendable work he has been undertaking. He also lauded the bold step taken by Wike in establishing the Civil Service Commission for FCT, as well as the decision to exempt the FCT from TSA. Furthermore, the establishment of the Women Affairs Secretariat to address women’s concerns was acknowledged as a noteworthy development.
In summary, the FCTA, under the leadership of Minister Nyesom Wike, has embarked on an ambitious road construction project aimed at decentralizing development and extending its benefits to rural areas within the six Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory. This initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and showcases a commitment to inclusivity and progress in the nation’s capital. Sen. Philip Aduda and Mr. Zakari Dobi, despite political differences, have expressed their support for these efforts and have commended Minister Wike for his outstanding work in the FCT, including the establishment of the Civil Service Commission and the Women Affairs Secretariat. The exemption of the FCT from the Treasury Single Account is another positive step in the quest to rebuild hope and improve the quality of life for FCT residents.
