Tunji Akinosi, the member representing Ado-Odo Ota Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, has refuted allegations of assaulting a police officer during the 2023 Iganmode Day celebration in Ota, Ogun State.
A viral video purportedly showing the altercation has sparked controversy, prompting Akinosi to defend his actions.
In a statement released by his Media Aide, Joel Okeodebija, Akinosi clarified that the incident involved a clash with a Police officer, identified as M. Yusuf, allegedly attached to Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), representing Ogun West senatorial district.

Akinosi asserted that the officer disrespected the Ogun State Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, which prompted his response.
According to the statement, Akinosi described the circulating video as manipulated and intended to tarnish his image for political reasons.
He claimed that the altercation stemmed from the officer’s disrespectful behavior towards the Deputy Governor, leading to a confrontation during which Akinosi pushed the officer in self-defense.
The statement also accused the officer of earlier assaulting the Deputy Governor’s aide and displaying a lack of professionalism.
Akinosi emphasized that his actions were aimed at maintaining order and defending the Deputy Governor’s honor.
Efforts to obtain a response from the Ogun State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, were unsuccessful as she did not respond to inquiries via text messages or phone calls.
Akinosi’s statement concluded by condemning the spread of false information and urged the public to disregard the allegations against him.
