At least four persons have been confirmed dead following a fatal road accident along G.U. Ake Road in Rivers State.
The tragic incident occurred around midnight on Monday when the driver of a Toyota Camry, with registration number ABJ 10 EM, lost control and plowed into a group of pedestrians.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said the accident claimed four lives on the spot, while two others sustained serious injuries.

“One Benson Peter Michael, male, 36 years old, and the driver of a Toyota Camry with registration number ABJ 10 EM, lost control of the vehicle and collided with six pedestrians,” the statement read.
“Tragically, four of the pedestrians were confirmed dead at the scene, while two others sustained injuries and were immediately rushed to BMH Hospital for medical attention.”
Iringe-Koko confirmed that the driver is currently in police custody, and the accidented vehicle has been recovered to the station. The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) Mortuary.
She added that the case would be transferred to the State Traffic Department for further investigation.
“The Command deeply regrets the unfortunate incident and assures the public that justice will be served,” she stated.
