Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has affirmed that his administration will fully implement the recent Supreme Court judgment on the state’s political crisis, despite disagreeing with the ruling.
Fubara made this declaration on Sunday during a broadcast on AIT, emphasizing that his government remains law-abiding and will comply with the court’s directive.
Supreme Court’s Judgment

The Supreme Court, in a judgment delivered on Friday by Justice Emmanuel Akomaye Agim, ruled that state funds would only be released to the Fubara-led government when a lawful Appropriation Law is enacted under the leadership of Martin Amaewhule as Speaker.
The apex court also ordered the 27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, who had been entangled in the political dispute, to resume their legislative duties immediately.
Fubara’s Response
Reacting to the ruling, Fubara directed the head of administration to take charge of local government affairs until the next council elections are conducted.
“We are all aware of the recent Supreme Court judgment and pronouncement regarding the lingering political crisis in our dear state.
Although we disagree with the judgment, we are bound to obey it as a law-abiding government,” Fubara stated.
He assured that his administration has operated within the framework of the constitution and the rule of law, acknowledging that while his government is not infallible, it has not violated the legal process.
Fubara disclosed that he had met with his legal team, who informed him that the certified true copy of the judgment would be available by Friday.
“I assure you that upon its receipt, we will implement the judgment without any reservation to move the state forward,” he said.
The governor further directed the head of administration to take over the management of local government affairs in the interim.
