Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has said that his decision to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was an easy one.
The governor stated this on Thursday while addressing journalists at the APC national headquarters in Abuja.
Fubara’s defection comes after a prolonged political crisis in Rivers State, which saw him locked in a power tussle with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) structure and party affairs in the state.

InfoStride News reports that in an effort to ease the political tension, President Bola Tinubu had earlier suspended both the governor and the Rivers State House of Assembly for six months.
Following his reinstatement in September, Fubara formally defected from the PDP to the APC on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, in a move widely regarded as a significant political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the governor, he has always been progressive in outlook and expressed his readiness to promote unity within the APC to drive development in Rivers State and the country at large.
“When you say I am a new member of the progressive family, that is correct, but I have always been a progressive at heart. We now have a direction,” he said.
Fubara added that his transition to the APC was one of the easiest decisions he had ever made, describing it as an expression of gratitude.
“I think my transition was one of the easiest things I have done in my life. I call it easy because saying thank you is very simple. Showing appreciation and gratitude is easy.
My joining the All Progressives Congress is to say thank you to Mr President and to join hands with other progressives to develop my state and Nigeria at large,” he stated.
