HONG KONG SAR – Media OutReach Newswire – 6 May 2025 – Demand for cross-border medical services within the Greater Bay Area (“GBA”) is increasing. A recent survey3 reveals that three in ten Hong Kong residents have sought medical treatment in mainland China, with over 76% recognising the benefits of having more treatment choices through cross-border options. To address the evolving healthcare needs of residents in the region,
FWD Hong Kong (“FWD”) has launched new cross-border medical solutions: the GBAssure Outpatient Plan4, which offers comprehensive outpatient coverage in designated cities within the GBA, and NobleCare Premier Medical Plan5, which provides lifetime medical protection across Greater China, Asia or worldwide6.Furthermore, FWD is strengthening its partnership with HKSH Medical Group (“HKSH”) to expand its one-stop cancer support services, adding cross-border doctor consultations and dedicated case nurse follow-up services. This collaboration aims to provide customers with more comprehensive health protection.

Cross-border
healthcare
solutions
to
meet
growing
GBA
demand
A recent study reveals that in 2023 alone, Shenzhen provided up to 700,000 times3 of medical and healthcare services to Hong Kong residents.
Ken Lau, Managing Director of Greater China & Hong Kong Chief Executive Officer, FWD, said, “With greater integration within the GBA, there’s a growing need for medical protection that extends across GBA cities in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau. True to our customer-led approach, FWD is launching new cross-border medical solutions and services, allowing customers to enjoy quality healthcare support free of geographical constraints. We are also delighted to celebrate our five-year partnership with HKSH Medical Group by launching a market-first cross-border cancer management programme, further strengthening our cancer support capabilities and comprehensively addressing our customers’ needs.”Dr Walton Li, Chief Executive Officer of HKSH Medical Group and Medical Superintendent of Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital, added, “The HKSH Cancer Centre in Happy Valley and Island East is equipped with cutting-edge medical technology, including the introduction of the first proton therapy system in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area. The HKSH Cancer Centre is also supported by a multidisciplinary team of specialists, providing comprehensive oncology diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation services in a one-stop setting. Through this enhanced collaboration with FWD, we are expanding our rehabilitation planning consultation services for designated critical illnesses and strengthening cross-border medical services to deliver timely, high-quality professional care to even more patients. This initiative further reinforces our commitment to holistic patients care, empowering them to regain their health and confidence in life.”
GBAssure Outpatient Plan: Seamless and convenient medical experience, no health underwriting required
Designed for individuals living, working, or frequently traveling between different cities in the GBA, this plan leverages a premier medical network covering Hong Kong, designated GBA cities in mainland China, and Macau6. It offers a range of first-in-market1 and extensive outpatient services, including general practitioners, dental care, Chinese medicine practitioners, psychiatric consultation, laboratory tests and diagnostic imaging and colonoscopy. Customers can access a dedicated booking platform through FWD eServices to instantly schedule a range of healthcare services, seamlessly enjoying a simpler and more convenient medical experience. Application process for the plan is straightforward and convenient, requiring no health underwriting or medical examination.
GBAssure Outpatient Plan covers four innovative and caring protection and services:
- First-in-market family plan extending the family care concept: Beyond three individual plans, the plan offers two family plan options, allowing three generations to share outpatient coverage under a single policy, safeguarding the holistic well-being of loved ones with no limit on number of family members7.
- Caring psychiatric consultation8: The plan provides consultations with psychiatrist, protecting customers’ mental and emotional health.
- Market-first colonoscopy benefit9: Offering colonoscopy services, relevant polypectomy and histopathology examination, emphasising proactive prevention.
- Innovative co-payment waiver for consultations without prescriptions10: Customers can enjoy general practitioner online consultations11 complemented by basic medication delivery. If customers choose not to receive prescription drugs after the online consultation, co-payment is waived.
NobleCare Premier Medical Plan: Global medical protection designed for high-net-worth clients
This plan provides high-net-worth clients with superior lifetime cross-border medical protection and support:
- Flexible coverage without boundaries, the same premium rates apply within the same benefit level6 regardless of customers’ place of residence. This plan offers unrestricted geographical coverage for emergency treatments accompanied by a choice of four distinct geographical areas for non-emergency treatment, and up to six deductible12 options to flexibly align with customers’ individual needs.
- Full cover13 on medical expenses without lifetime limits: Full coverage for a comprehensive range of hospitalisation and surgical medical expenses, annual coverage limit for various benefit levels can reach up to HKD30 million, with guaranteed renewal14 up to age 101 (age next birthday).
- FWD Care services providing dedicated hospitalisation and surgical arrangements15: Benefit from a tailored, one-stop global medical solution, this covers all Grade 3A hospitals in mainland China, including over 300 premium hospitals with international VIP access. Customers can enjoy the convenience of cashless facility for hospitalisation, as well as exclusive medical companion services to assist with hospital admission registration.
- Personalised medical and rehabilitation support from a professional team, including additional support for stroke rehabilitation.
Strengthening collaboration with HKSH to expand support services
FWD and HKSH are committed to providing top-tier medical support services. According to the “FWD Hong Kong Claims Report 2024,” cancer cases account for 71% of critical illness claims, reflecting the increasing demand for quality cancer treatment and case management. As the partnership reaches its five-year milestone, cancer case and rehabilitation planning consultation services will be further expanded and refined, with the addition of two major cancer support services for customers, including those with the NobleCare Premier Medical Plan:
- Cancer concierge service15: A dedicated case nurse assigned by HKSH will oversee and coordinate customers’ entire treatment plan.
- Cross-border cancer doctor-to-doctor tele-opinion15: HKSH collaborates with designated hospitals in mainland China to conduct cross-border cancer doctor-to-doctor tele-opinion, providing professional cross-border medical advice based on customers’ medical conditions and needs to ensure optimal cancer treatment.
Kelvin Yu, Chief Product Officer for FWD Hong Kong & Macau, noted, “The growing number of cancer-related claims in the past year16 reflect the growing demand for cancer treatment and protection among our customers. This strengthened collaboration will further combine FWD’s flexible insurance solutions with HKSH’s top-tier medical services, bringing more comprehensive and quality health protection to our customers across prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation, ultimately enhancing their quality of life.”
Dr Joseph Chan, Chief Medical Officer of HKSH Medical Group and Deputy Medical Superintendent of Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital, said, “At HKSH, our mission has always been to deliver premium, high-quality medical services. Our collaboration with FWD currently covers a comprehensive range of services for designated critical illnesses, including free second medical opinion consultations, personalised treatment planning, tailored rehabilitation programme recommendations, as well as professional nutritional and dietary advice. From diagnosis to rehabilitation, each case will be coordinated by a dedicated nurse, allowing patients who cross borders to seek medical care in Hong Kong to experience top-notch medical services and receive treatment with peace of mind.”
